DAVAO CITY – A 45-year-old woman died in the town of Sulop, Davao del Sur, after the 5.3-magnitude aftershock hit the province at 4:18 a.m. last Wednesday.
The Sulop Municipal Police Station identified the victim as Josephine Momo, a resident of Leling, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
In a police report released on Friday, Momo along with her live-in partner, Jaime Llamos, 57, attended the dawn Mass at San Roque Parish in Sulop around 4 a.m.
The report said while the Mass was ongoing, the quake shook the town, causing panic among the parishioners. As people started to run outside the church, Momo collapsed while she was about to go out.
The victim was rushed by other churchgoers to South Davao Medical Hospital in Padada but was declared dead on arrival.
The report also said that Momo had a long-time illness.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) 11 already recorded 10 deaths from the 6.9-magnitude quake last Sunday afternoon, excluding Momo.
The latest addition to the list from OCD 11 was Juanita Hiwasa of Barangay Dawis, Digos City.
Based on the report, Hiwasa had a heart failure when the tremor happened in their area.
Of the total number of deaths during the December 15 quake, three came from Padada, two in Matanao, and one each for Magsaysay, Bansalan,Hagonoy and Digos City in Davao del Sur; while another in Malita, Davao Occidental. (Armando B. Fenequito Jr.)
