Retired teachers and principals in Manila, who did not receive their P500 monthly allowance from 2017 to 2018, will be able to get what is due them retroactively, Mayor Isko Moreno announced.
Moreno said he signed over the weekend the budget for the retired teachers after he learned of the problem from netizens who directed their complaints to him.
“They are very busy attending to checks and yet those who are trying to mold, guide or educate their children for the next generation and who rendered service all their life are being neglected,” Moreno said.
The mayor said he has already directed city treasurer Jasmin Talegon to start the processing of the documents so that the retired teachers and principals from the city’s public schools can get their allowances.
He also thanked the public for informing him about the matter.
He also expressed disgust as the small amount of money was denied to the retired teachers and principals.
Moreno said that before he assumed office, the previous administration signed P2.6 billion in contracts in just 30 days.
“I’ve been receiving messages from netizens na ‘yung nanay ko, retired di nakakuha ng pension since 2018. ‘Yung anak ang sakit ng pakiramdam. ‘Yung iba me portion pa na 2017 pa. These are things of the past. What is important is today and the future. Last Saturday, I signed documents to enable the retirees to claim retroactive,” Moreno said.
“I just feel bad for them. Someday magre-retire kayo alam ko most of you aasa lang sa pension sa haba ng trabaho n’yo. Don’t worry, as long as I am the mayor, walang maagrabyado sa inyo. I will always give what is due you,” he added. (Erma Edera)
