BACOLOD CITY – Two persons, including a pregnant woman, died while seven others were injured when a motorcycle collided with a tricycle in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, last Saturday.
Police identified the fatalities as Sheriel Sumugat, 32, who was eight-month pregnant; and motorcycle driver Eric Onyot, 22, of Barangay Cadiz Viejo.
Injured were tricycle driver Poljun Ofianga, 41; and his passengers – Nanie Decain, 27; Daisy Decain, 25; Jennylyn Anota, 32; and three minors aged one, 11, and 12, whose names were withheld. All victims are residents of Barangay Sicaba.
Lt. Col. Robert Mansueto, city police chief, said the accident happened when an alleged speeding motorcycle driven by Onyot reportedly overlapped the opposite lane and collided with the tricycle driven by Ofianga.
The passengers of the tricycle were thrown away due to the strong impact of the collision.
The motorcycle was on its way to Bacolod while the tricycle was supposed to send home his seven passengers.
