Around 100 families will welcome the New Year without their homes as fire engulfed on Sunday a residential area in Parola, Tondo, Manila.
Initial investigation showed the blaze started at 10:45 a.m. on the second floor of a two-storey residential building owned by one Joel Acontillado in Parola Compound, Tondo.
The fire razed around 50 houses and reached fourth alarm at 10:59 a.m.
Fire authorities said the blaze was extinguished at 1:19 p.m.. Sixteen fire trucks responded to the fire.
The cause of fire and the amount of damage have yet to be determined.
On Saturday, a fire also struck a residential area on Old Balagtas Street in Barangay 833, Pandacan Manila, leaving one people injured and 300 families homeless.
It has reached fifth alarm and was declared under control at 11:57 a.m.
Authorities placed the damage at P2 million. (Erma Edera)
