The Philippine government is ready to assist the two Filipinos who were killed when a car lost control and crashed into a group of Filipinos gathered in a popular mall in Singapore on Sunday.
Four other Filipinos were hurt in the incident, two are in stable condition while the two others are said to be undergoing intensive treatment, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said, quoting a report from the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.
“The DFA stands ready to provide all the assistance needed for the victims. The DFA, through the Embassy, is now in touch with authorities for the repatriation of the remains of the Filipino casualties,” the DFA said.
The two victims who were rushed to a nearby hospital while already “unconscious” were identified only as both females aged 41 and 50 years old, respectively.
According to reports, the incident occurred before 5 p.m. on Sunday when a black Honda car with a private license crashed through a pavement railing along Orchard Road and eventually landed on the exit lane of Lucky Plaza car park.
Lucky Plaza, one of the oldest structures along the high-end Orchard Road district, is known as a gathering place for Filipinos working there especially during weekends when most are taking their day-offs.
At the time of the incident, it was learned that many OFWs were gathered in the Lucky Plaza grounds to celebrate New Year in advance.
A video that circulated online, it showed that the festive mood was disrupted by a loud bang apparently emanating from a crash that can be heard in the footages.
