A police general was asked to go on a yogurt diet as the Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed to strictly implement this year the policy on Body Mass Index (BMI) for all the cops nationwide.
PNP Officer-In-Charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa did not name the police official but disclosed that he had already reminded the police general of his excess weight.
“Last week, I reminded him and he started buying yogurt. He has a particular target and you will see for yourself,” Gamboa told reporters in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The PNP has started implementing the policy for all the 205,000 policemen to comply with the BMI.
And no one will he spared, according to Gamboa, including him.
The official said that he is set to sign the memorandum on BMI wherein those who would fail to comply would face sanctions.
The body mass index is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women, according to local the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
“If you are not compliant with the BMI, you will be denied schooling until you are able to comply,” said Gamboa.
Schooling of policemen is important for promotion and assignment placements.
In a highly-competitive organization like the PNP now, a delay in the schooling even for one year has a big impact on a police official’s career path.
Pressed to name the general whom he asked to comply with BMI, Gamboa refused to do so.
The police official, however, is currently assigned in Metro Manila. (Aaron Recuenco)
