The low-pressure area east of Mindanao may not develop into a tropical cyclone but could still bring rains over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao early this week.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the LPA was estimated at 1,260 kilometers east of Mindanao early yesterday morning.
The weather disturbance was expected to enter the country within the day but has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression, he added.
The northeast monsoon or “amihan” remains the dominant weather system prevailing over Luzon.
Mendoza said the amihan will likely bring cloudy skies with light rains over Aurora, Quezon, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Apayao.
Occasional strong wind gusts may affect the coastal and mountainous communities due to the surge of amihan.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon could experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains.
Mendoza said Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers but the possible occurrence of severe thunderstorms during late afternoon or early evening could trigger flash floods over low-lying areas or landslides over mountainous regions.
The State weather bureau has not issued a gale warning, thus, fisher folk and seafarers are safe to sail. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
