The Department of Education announced yesterday that classes have resumed in some areas affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano.
DepEd said in Education Cluster Report as of Jan. 18 that the suspension of classes in some areas affected by the eruption of Taal such as the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and Region 4-B (Mimaropa or the Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area) has been lifted.
DepEd latest data showed that 1,139,897 learners in 1,600 schools in 15 divisions under Region 4-A (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area) are affected by the eruption.
Affected divisions include Antipolo City, Bacoor City, Batangas, Batangas City, Binan City, Cabuyao, Calamba City, Cavite, Cavite City, Laguna, Lipa City, Quezon, San Pablo City, Sta. Rosa City, and Tanauan City.
DepEd noted that classes in 11 divisions remain suspended, affecting 1,159,648 learners in 1, 598 schools, and that 34,053 personnel are affected.
Three-hundred two schools in 11 divisions under Region 4-A are being used as evacuation centers. One thousand, nine-hundred seventy-six classrooms in these schools are accommodating 13, 916 families or 55, 343 individuals and 12,242 of them are learners. (Ina Hernando Malipot)
