Police Gen. Archie Gamboa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Thursday the relief of three ranking police officials assigned in Central Visayas after they were caught playing golf during weekdays.
He identified them as Col. Dennis Artil, the comptroller of the Central Visayas regional police; Lt. Col. Richard Bad-ang, the chief of the Finance Service of the Central Visayas regional police; and Lt. Col. Glenn Mayam, the head of the PNP Drug-Enforcement Group of the Central Visayas regional police.
“They were found to be playing golf during Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sometimes Wednesdays when they are bored,” said Gamboa in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Gamboa said the three police officials clearly disregarded his order when he was still the office-in-charge of the PNP that no policeman should play golf during office hours and during weekdays.
The official said that while he allows golf and other sports activities during weekends, he said his instruction is clear that it should not be done during weekdays.
Gamboa said that he had already placed the three under the custody of Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) at Camp Crame in Quezon City and will be investigated for what he described as flagrant violation of a specific directive.
“This is an act that constitutes grave misconduct,” said Gamboa.(Aaron Recuenco)
