Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa yesterday confirmed that his United States visa has been cancelled and learned of it a day before his birth anniversary.
Dela Rosa said he received the US Embassy’s response to his letter which he sent last December 2019 inquiring if his visa was cancelled.
The former Philippine National Police chief said he wrote a letter inquiring the status of his US visa after the US approved a legislation prohibiting the entry of Filipino officials who were supposedly behind the arrest and detention of opposition Sen. Leila de Lima.
“I sent an official letter to the embassy inquiring from them if my visa was cancelled. I receive their official answer a day before my birthday, Jan. 20,” Dela Rosa said.
“What a good birthday gift, informing me that my visa is no longer valid for travel to the US,” said the senator.
Dela Rosa also disclosed that he was told to reapply again if he wants to secure a US visa. He also said no reason was stated why his US visa was cancelled.
Dela Rosa said he will consider reapplying especially if President Duterte wants his company should he accept President Donald Trump’s invitation to attend the upcoming US-ASEAN summit in Las Vegas.
“Titingnan ko kung pupunta si Pangulong Duterte tanggapin invitation ni Trump, just in case lang, then I will apply,” Dela Rosa said. (Hannah Torregoza)
