CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – An alleged finance officer of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) was arrested at a police-military checkpoint at Purok 1, Barangay Sico-sico, Gigaquit in Surigao del Norte, police reported Wednesday.
The suspect, Joselyn F. Curiba, with aliases Lanie, Mel and Anne, alleged finance officer of Guerilla Front 16-B of the CPP-NPA North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), did not resist arrest when accosted by lawmen last Monday.
Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel, Jr., said the suspect has standing warrants of arrest for alleged kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges.
The warrants were issued by Judge Fernando R. Fudalan, Jr. of 10th Judicial Region, Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, with no bail recommended.
Confiscated during the operation were one black belt bag containing one anti-personnel mine, 12 meters electrical wire, one battery set, blasting cap with detonating cord, eight meters of hammock rope, two pairs of black socks, two “tapita”, and one upper Field Service Uniform (FSU), Curiba said.
“The operation that led to her arrest is part of our aggressive campaign against insurgency and wanted persons. I am continuously encouraging all our brothers and sisters who are deceived by the CPP-NPA terrorists to surrender and return to the folds of the law,” he said. (Mike U. Crismundo)
