BACOLOD CITY – A 28-year-old man is facing two criminal complaints before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to rape his neighbor, a 64-year-old woman, in Sagay City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.
Maj. Antonio Benitez Jr., city police chief, said charges for rape and frustrated homicide were filed against the suspect, whom he refused to name.
Benitez said the suspect who was reportedly drunk early Sunday allegedly entered the house of the elderly woman and allegedly attempted to sexually molest her.
Benitez said the victim fought back and the suspect allegedly hit her head with a stone, but their other neighbors heard a noise due to the victim’s struggle, prompting the suspect to escape.
The victim was brought to a hospital while the suspect, who was hiding in a sugarcane field, was later arrested by the responding village watchmen.
He (suspect) was placed under police custody after he was positively identified by the victim.
Benitez said the suspect refused to answer the allegations against him.
Benitez said the suspect has also an arrest warrant for homicide. (Glazyl Masculino)
