The number of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases in Manila has risen to five, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Monday.
The statement came after the Department of Health (DoH) confirmed on Sunday that a Manila City resident is among the latest COVID-19 fatalities.
In his city address broadcasted live on Facebook on Monday, Domagoso said two more residents tested positive for the disease.
One of them is a 54-year-old man from Pandacan who is currently admitted at the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Manila. Citing reports from the DoH, the city mayor said the said patient has recently travelled to Thailand.
The other patient is a 36-year-old man from Sta. Cruz who is confined at the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center.
The local chief executive said the patient regularly travels in and out of the country. DoH records show that he has recently traveled to Cambodia.
Domagoso said the patient’s family are now considered persons under monitoring (PUMs) and were quarantined in another house.
The first COVID-19 case in Manila, a 56-year-old man who was admitted at the Makati Medical Center, died on Sunday evening, the city mayor confirmed.
According to the DoH, the patient died due to acute respiratory distress syndrome and was found to have pre-existing asthma.
Out of the 12 COVID-19 mortalities in the country, four died while receiving treatment in hospitals in Manila.
Meanwhile, the city government received 3,200 face masks as a donation.
Domagoso said the masks will be distributed to six hospitals in the Philippine capital for the health workers who are on the frontline in the fight against the COVID-19. (Minka Tiangco)
