DAGUPAN CITY — This city has recorded its first Covid-19 death, authorities announced Sunday night.
Mayor Brian Lim received a report from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) informing him that a patient under investigation (PUI), who died three days ago, had tested positive for Covid-19.
An 80-year-old male from Barangay Pogo Chico, is the 6th confirmed Covid-19 case and the first to die of the disease in Dagupan City.
He was also one of the three PUIs who died last week before their test results were released, according to the mayor.
The patient died while he was being treated at the Region 1 Medical Center on April 2 and was immediately cremated the following day.
Health officials noted that the patient had no travel history but he was exposed to a person who had travelled to Metro Manila.
The patient, tagged as DCPUI2+, was suffering from diabetes mellitus.
Members of his family were placed under strict home quarantine.
Mayor Lim urged residents to stay home and wear face mask if buying foods outside. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
