GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) couple surrendered to military authorities in Malita, Davao Occidental, to give priority for the delivery of their first baby.
Lt. Col. Ronaldo Valdez, 73rd Infantry Battalion commander, said Ramsy Lomasyo, 24, and wife, Rosalie Dubo, 19, had nursed their first baby who was normally delivered at the district hospital in Malita, Davao Occidental, over the weekend.
Maruya thanked the local government of Malita and the 73rd IB officials for facilitating the safe delivery of their first baby.
He said they opted to surrender before the scheduled delivery of their first baby because under the policy of the communist rebel group, NPA couple will have to turnover the infant to NPA contacts in the mainstream community, who will serve as temporary foster parents of the child while they remain active in the underground group.
As a couple, Maruya said they will not allow their newborn to be separated from them.
He said as parents, they will ensure that their child will not fall prey to the recruitment of the communist rebel group when she grows older.
Lomasyo even urged his former comrades who are mostly members of the B’laan tribal group to return to the folds of the law and avail of the local peace and development initiatives of the local government. (Joseph Jubelag)
