A six-year-old boy from Aleosan, North Cotabato, gave up a chance to have a bicycle on his birthday in order to help the frontliners fighting COVID-19 in their area.
The parents of Zhydyll Kurt Baytos — Maricel and Edward — had been saving money to buy a bike for his birthday on April 13. But they were surprised when their son informed them that he would rather donate the money.
“This is my memorable birthday ever. Instead of buying a bike from my savings, I decided to buy pig and celebrate my special day by giving packed lunch to the frontliners on Aleosan,” said the birthday boy during an online interview. “Thank you frontliners for your dedication and sacrifice in the battle against COVID-19.”
International pageant director and talent manager Josephus Ople Canabuan said that Zhydyll had noticed the sacrifices of the frontliners in their area and in the news.
Zhydyll, who is known in their area as Little Policeman of Mindanao (because his father is a cop), said that he is willing to wait for his bicycle next year.
“Nag-offer din siya ng prayers para sa mga naging biktima ng coronavirus,” his mother said.
Canabuan said that his parents led the distribution of food packs to frontliners.
Neighbors lauded the kindness and positivity of the Zhydyll and his parents during these dark times. (Robert R. Requintina)
