Two policemen were killed while two others were wounded when unidentified gunmen attacked the Parang Municipal Police Station in Sulu on Saturday night.
A report reaching Camp Crame stated that the gunmen strafed the police station located at the town proper of Parang town at around 6:30 p.m., prompting the local police to position themselves to defend the station.
The attack resulted in the death of Patrolman Arjun Putalan and Corporal Mudar Salamat.
Two other cops identified as Police Executive Master Sergeant Hamin Sarribon and Police Senior Master Sergeant Harold Nieva were wounded taken to the local hospital.
Members of the police elite Special Action Forces (SAF) immediately proceeded to the area to reinforce the local police but the gunmen already fled towards Indanan town.
Pursuit operations were immediately launched while investigation is being conducted to determine the identity of the attackers.
The province of Sulu hosts a number of armed groups but the dominant is the Abu Sayyaf Group which has been operating in the area since the 1990s. (Aaron Recuenco)
