TRIBONG PINOY: They’re Filipinos, too.
Indigenous peoples are commonly lumped under a heading as sub-culture, which is quite unfortunate.
Tribes are part and parcel of Filipino culture, and their stories must be told continuously to keep their tradition alive and well.
Good thing that throughout August, in celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, Sentro Rizal of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) presents “Sa Kuwento Natin: E-Storytelling of Indigenous Filipino Tales” as retold by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario.

SA KWENTO NATIN: New episodes of “Sa Kuwento Natin” are being shown every Saturday, 6 p.m. on the Sentro Rizal – NCCA YouTube Channel for the whole month of August.
Each episode features one story from indigenous Filipino tales, presented by various storytellers and illustrators.
The stories are based on the rich narratives of our indigenous peoples.
Episode one of the ongoing series told recently the story of “Si Manama at si Ogassi.” Some of the films and theatrical plays chronicling the experiences of tribal Filipinos include “Ang Kwento ni Mabuti,” “Busong,” “The Wedding Dance” (play-turned-into-film), “Banaue,” “Kalinga,” etc.
