CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – An alleged squad leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to government security forces in Agay-ayan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental province, the military reported Tuesday.
1st Lt. Roel T. Maglalang, Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer of the Army’s 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion (23rd IB), said the NPA leader identified as alias “Ka Cobs” and “Botoy” yielded to the 23rd IB and police forces after realizing of a “dark future” in the armed struggle.
The rebel returnee (name withheld for his safety) is a 22-year-old leader of Squad 2 of Sangay sa Yunit Pangpropaganda (SYP) of Kingdom Guerilla Front 4-A of the CPP-NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
“The NPA squad leader gave up at 5:50 in the evening on Saturday (Aug. 15) and pledged to help the government’s peace and development program,” 1 st Lt. Maglalang added. (Mike Crismundo)
