A 52-year-old male civilian employee of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was the 16th fatality from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the police organization.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the latest fatality was Patient 2982 who was assigned to the Police National Training Institute-National Training Center. He died on August 17.
The death of another PNP personnel came as the number of infected policemen continues to increase based on the data of the police’s Health Service.
As of Sunday night, a total of 3,380 PNP personnel were infected as another 104 tested positive for the coronavirus.
The biggest chunk of the infection was from the Metro Manila police force with 70. The rest are from various parts of the country.
Banac said they continue to monitor the infection among PNP personnel, especially those assigned to do frontline duties.
A total of 2,688 PNP personnel are classified as suspected cases of COVID-19 while a total of 711 are considered probable cases. (Aaron Recuenco)
