Public celebration of masses at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila will finally resume Wednesday almost six months since it was halted due to the coronavirus (COVID) outbreak.
The Cathedral announced the reopening of its doors to the public in their Facebook page Monday.
However, only a limited number of people will be allowed inside the church as the National Capital Region is still under General Community Quarantine.
“Only 80 persons can be accommodated inside the Cathedral for each Mass, on a first come first served basis,” read the post.
“During Sundays, the faithful can also stay in Plaza Roma, where communion will also be distributed,” it further read.
Those who wish to attend Mass may do so from Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., Saturday: 7:30 a.m.and Sunday: 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and 6 p.m.
All Masses will still be livestreamed online through the Cathedral’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
The Cathedral will also be open for private prayers from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1p.m. to 5 p.m.
The public is reminded to wear face masks and face shields when entering the Cathedral.
Known as the “Mother Church of the country,” public celebration of masses at the Cathedral have been suspended since March when the community quarantine was implemented due to the coronavirus disease.
Last September 8, the Manila Cathedral opened its doors to the public for one day to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary. (Leslie Ann Aquino)
