A total of 73 barangays in the City of Manila that did not have any new coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection from September 1 to October 31 received the city mayor’s promised P100,000 cash incentive Monday morning.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso distributed the cash incentive to the barangays during the city’s regular flag-raising ceremony at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.
“Gusto ko, sa maliit man nating kaparaanan, mabigyan man lang sila ng pagkilala sa kanilang effort sa pagligtas sa tiyak na panganib ang kanilang mga barangay community members,” he said in his speech.
“I’m proud of you, and what you did is duplicable. Hindi siya imposible. Mahirap, hindi biro, pero hindi imposible,” he added.
The 73 recipients of the P100,000 cash incentive are as follows:
- District 1 barangays — 3, 8, 30, 44, 83, 87, 124, 126, 127, 139, 143, 145
- District 2 barangays — 188, 217, 239, 240, 243, 244, 252, 258, 261
- District 3 barangays — 268, 270, 271, 272, 273, 295, 300, 303, 306, 307, 326, 330, 332, 344, 348, 349, 362, 363, 380, 390
- District 4 barangays — 446, 462, 469, 490, 501, 546, 552, 573, 577
- District 5 barangays — 661, 706, 711, 716, 742, 663-A, 749, 757, 758, 795

Domagoso assured that all data coming from the barangays have been validated by the Manila Health Department.
The local chief executive also congratulated all the other barangays for the decreased number of COVID-19 infections in their areas of responsibility.
“Kahit hindi kayo zero, pero napababa ninyo at buhay pa kayo, that is a blessing, that you are alive and healthy,” he said, saying that some barangay officials have already fallen to the deadly disease.
Earlier, the Manila mayor challenged the city’s barangays to stay COVID-free for two months, September 1 to October 31, to receive a P100,000-cash incentive from the city government.
This is in line with his incentives-based approach in containing the spread of deadly disease.
The city government allotted P89.6 million, equivalent to 896 barangays in the city, for the program.
As of Friday noon, the capital city has a total of 21,108 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Of this figure, only 480 are active cases, 20,009 have recovered, and 619 have died.
