The bag containing the personal belongings of University of the Philippines College of Law professor Ryan Oliva, which was found on the shores of Occidental Mindoro, may have originated from Batangas where he was allegedly last seen.
Oliva has been missing since Nov. 21 and the investigation disclosed that he went to a resort in Nasugbu, Batangas on board a taxi which he reportedly hired from Pasay City.
Brig. Gen. Pascual Muñoz, director of the Police Regional Office 4B, said the black backpack of Oliva was recovered on the shore of Barangay Balikyas in Looc town of Occidental Mindoro on Nov. 27.
“We believe that the bag was carried by water current to Occidental Mindoro from Batangas. We protected the bag for investigation purposes and it was already turned over to the CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group),” said Muñoz.
A worker for a construction company called the police on Nov. 27 and said he found a bag while walking along the shoreline of Looc town. When the police checked the bag, they discovered personal belongings of Oliva.
Among them were identification cards, a cellular phone and keys.
“We are now working with the CIDG and Police Regional Office 4A for the solution of this case,” said Muñoz.
Oliva also works as an employee of the Department of Tourism. (Aaron Recuenco)
