ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police authorities here arrested on Thursday a former Sulu mayor who is facing 25 counts of criminal cases for allegedly violating Republic Act 8291 or the Revised Government Service Insurance Act of 1977.
Police Regional Office for Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) director Brig. Gen. Jesus D. Cambay Jr., said Abdulsali Kangiluhan Asmadun, 66, former mayor of Lugus, Sulu, was nabbed at his temporary residence on Don Alfaro St. in Barangay Tetuan, this city, at about 1 p.m..
He was arrested by policemen from the Zamboanga City Central Police Station and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-9 Cambay said.
His arrest was done by virtue of a court order issued against him for alleged non-remittance of GSIS premium as stipulated under RA 8291.
Cambay said Asmadun was facing 25 counts of criminal offenses filed at the sala of Judge Oscar C. Herrera, Jr. chairperson of Second Division of the Sandiganbayan in Quezon City on Nov. 20, 2020, with a recommended bail bond of P10,000 for each case.
He is now under the custody of CIDG-9 in this city for proper disposition. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
