Two enforcers of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) were arrested for allegedly extorting money from a motorist in Manila on Monday.
Arrested were Teodoro Tomas, 50, of Sampaloc, Manila; and Eddie Peralta, 26, of Sta. Cruz, Manila, police said.
Investigation showed that a certain Ariel Garcia was riding his motorcycle in Paco, Manila at around 10:50 p.m. when he was flagged down by the two enforcers at the corner of Pedro Gil Street and President Quirino Avenue.
Tomas and Peralta confiscated the victim’s license for reckless driving and having no certificate of registration for his motorcycle.
However, they reportedly told him that they will return his license if he gives them P1,000. Garcia left to get money and promised that he will return.
But on his way back, he decided to approach members of the police who agreed to conduct an entrapment operation.
The two enforcers were arrested by the cops after the victim gave them P1,000.
The suspects are now under police custody and will be charged with robbery-extortion, police said. (Minka Tiangco)
