Mayor Alfred Romualdez tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Tacloban City Media Center confirmed Thursday.
Romualdez is the fifth mayor in Eastern Visayas to have contracted the dreaded disease that has affected at least 9,185 individuals in the region.
He is among the 65 fresh cases logged in Region 8 on Thursday.
Of these, 14 came from the city. Two COVID-19 fatalities were also recorded.
Meanwhile, his wife, former Mayor Cristina Gonzalez Romualdez, said in her social media that she tested negative for the disease.
The first lady said she was in Tacloban three weeks ago so she has not been exposed to her husband as she is already in Manila.
“Please keep Mayor Alfred in your prayers,” she asked.
The mayor is yet to release a statement. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
