DAVAO CITY – One person died while dozens of residents from Barangay Butuan, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental were hospitalized due to diarrhea over the weekend.
In a statement yesterday, Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jason John Joyce said 33 patients from Barangay Butuan are currently in the District Hospital in Barangay Poblacion after suffering from diarrhea.
“Sa ngayon po ay may 33 patients po tayo sa District Hospital sa poblacion JAS (Jose Abad Santos). We are also verifying din po if related sa diarrhea outbreak ang pasyente na dinala sa Glan Hospital,” he added.
Joyce identified the fatality as Emilio Sumanday. “Sa kasamaang palad ay may isang casualty po tayo. May you rest in peace Tatay Emilio Sumanday,” Joyce said.
Joyce said they are still identifying the cause of the outbreak which was reported to him Saturday morning.
“Puwedeng sa tubig, puwedeng sa pagkain,” he said.
Joyce assured patients and their families that the municipal government will shoulder transportation expenses from Barangay Butuan to hospitals in Glan, Sarangani, Malita, General Santos City, Digos City, and Davao City.
“May on standby vehicle na po tayo na pinabiyahe from Poblacion to Barangay Butuan for emergency transportation. Ang Butuan po ay nasa 1.5 hours away sa pinakamalapit na hospital,” he said.
