San Miguel Corp. Sports Director Alfrancis Chua said he is set to meet Barangay Ginebra San Miguel center Greg Slaughter to discuss Slaughter’s contract situation with the Kings.
Chua said Saturday he is hoping to settle things with the seven-foot Slaughter who missed the Philippine Cup bubble last year after opting to explore things with regards to his career as he trained in the US and signed with international management company BeoBasket.
“Maguusap kami next week. Kailangan usap,” said Chua as he appeared on weekend sports show The Chasedown on One PH over Cignal TV.
“Ang gulo na nga (because of COVID-19 pandemic) mag-aaway pa ba. Pakinggan ang rason nila kung kayang intihdinhin, intinidhin natin.”
Originally picked No. 1 overall by Ginebra during the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft, Slaughter did not play last year after he didn’t sign following the expiration of his contract last January 2020.
Ginebra still owns his rights.
The 32-year-old Slaughter apologized to the team and the management – particularly to Chua – in a post on his social media account after he took a long break during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also expressed his desire to play with the team.
