RIZAL, Nueva Ecija – A public school teacher was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Poblacion Norte at around 1:36 p.m. on Monday.
Police identified the victim as Richard Peñaflor, 31, public high school teacher and a resident of Barangay Poblacion Norte, Rizal.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Marlon Concepcion, investigator-on-case, said the victim was sitting in the veranda of their house when he was shot.
The suspect, who was wearing maong jeans, white t-shirt, face mask, and bull cap casually left the place after the killing.
“Nakarinig lang po ako ng putok kaya pumasok ako sa compound, then nakita ko may lalaking nagmamadaling lumabas,” the victim’s brother Jay Penaflor told the investigator. He later saw his brother lying on the floor.
Probers are looking into the possibility of a mistaken identity and love triangle in the killing since the teacher had no record of any trouble in the neighborhood.
Police are now reviewing the CCTV camera footages to determine the identity of the lone gunman who was casually walked away from the crime scene. (Ariel P. Avendano)
