Two rookie policemen are set to be kicked out of the police service after they tested positive during the conduct of a surprise drug test in Olongapo City and Sulu.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said he had already ordered to disarm the two policemen and placed them under restrictive custody while the dismissal procedures are ongoing.
He identified them as Patrolmen Reyland Intal of the Olongapo City Mobile Force Company and Benhur Ismael of the 2nd Sulu Provincial Mobile Force Company.
“If left undetected, these two police rookies will continue with their drug use and perhaps influence others. They will have to go because there is no place for addicts in the PNP,” said Sinas in a statement.
Intal tested positive for the use of marijuana while Ismael was for the use of shabu. Their urine samples also tested positive during the confirmatory tests.
The surprise drug testing for policemen in Olongapo City was ordered by Sinas after four policemen were recently arrested during a raid on a suspected shabu laboratory in Subic.
Intal was the only one who tested positive out of the 397 police personnel in the area.
He said 25 more personnel of the Olongapo City police will also be subjected to drug tests. They were not present during the drug test as they were either on schooling or detailed in other areas.
More or less 500 policemen were already dismissed from the service since 2016 after testing positive during drug tests. (Aaron Recuenco)
