STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija – An alleged drug pusher involved in gunrunning was killed in a shootout with cops in Barangay Soledad here at around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, police reported Monday.
Town police chief Major Fortune Dianne Bernardo identified the suspect as Marvin Reyes alias “Halimaw”, 40, a resident of Barangay Nonong Sr. in San Luis, Aurora.
Police report disclosed that an agent who posed as a poseur-buyer managed to buy from the suspect a P1,000 worth of shabu.
But when the police introduced himself as a cop, Reyes, who was on board a motorcycle, sped off and fired shots at the operatives. The lawmen retaliated, killing him.
“Nakatakas lang po ‘yong suspek nang mag-raid sa bahay ang anti-drugs operatives kamakailan, then dito na nagtatago at nagbebenta sa Nueva Ecija,” Bernardo said.
An intelligence report bared that the suspect, a son-in-law of an incumbent village chief of Barangay Nonong Sr., was listed as one of the top 10 most wanted persons in Aurora province.
Probers recovered from the slain suspect two .45-caliber pistols, a .38-caliber revolver, a hand grenade, several live bullets, a plastic sachet of suspected shabu, P1,000 marked money, and an unregistered motorcycle. (Ariel P. Avendaño)
