Greg Slaughter is looking to make the most out of the trade that sent him from Barangay Ginebra San Miguel to NorthPort.
Slaughter’s stint with Ginebra, the only team he played since being drafted first overall in 2013, came to an end Friday, March 5, 2021, when he was shipped to NorthPort in exchange for Christian Standhardinger.
“It has been a tremendous (six) years with Barangay Ginebra,” Slaughter said on his Instagram account hours after the trade was announced. “Although I am saddened to know that my journey with them has officially come to an end, from the first pick in the draft to (an All-Star) and multiple championships, I will always look back fondly at the time I spent there.
“I want to thank boss RSA (San Miguel Corporation chief Ramon Ang), boss Alfrancis (Chua), my teammates, my coaches, and all the fans who have been supporting the team all these years,” he added.
NorthPort is hoping that the trade will benefit Slaughter, who decided to take a break last year to improve his skills in the United States.
Slaughter, for his part, couldn’t wait to showcase whatever new skills he gained, adding that there’s more reasons to believe that he still has “my best basketball ahead of me.”
“I am truly excited for this new adventure and for the next chapter in my story to begin. I still have my best basketball ahead of me,” he said. “I have so much left to give the game and just as blessed as ever to play the game I love in front of all the fans who have been with me through it all, no matter what jersey I wear.
“Sa lahat ng patuloy at walang sawang sumusoporta sa akin, taos puso akong nagpapasalamat. Pinapangako ko sa inyo na hindi ko kayo bibiguin,” added Slaughter. _
