BULUAN, Maguindanao – Election and education officials in Maguindanao are considering the assignment of soldiers and cops as poll tellers for the 2016 elections in the province, particularly in towns listed as “hot spots” or “areas of concern.”
Lawyer Udtog Tago, provincial election supervisor in Maguindanao, said he was amenable to the proposed use of cops and soldiers as partners of teachers inside polling precincts because a similar remedial scheme was “proven effective” in past elections in the province.
“Rival candidates and their supporter-voters had behaved well in the presence of policemen and soldiers serving as members of the board of election tellers inside polling precincts. (Ali G. Macabalang)
