LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – A 33-year-old construction worker was arrested here Thursday after his former girlfriend, a married woman, told police that he was threatening to spread the videos of their intimate moments again.
Police said the suspect, “Joel” (full name withheld to protect the identity of the victim), a native of Ormoc City, Leyte, was nabbed in an entrapment operation at Lovely Inn in Barangay 44, Zamboanga, here, at about 4 p.m.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (DILG) Ilocos Norte Provincial Field Unit and the local police launched the operation upon the complaint of the suspect’s former girlfriend, a 40-year-old canteen helper.
The complainant admitted that she had an illicit affair with the suspect that began in May 2020, police said.
She claimed that she had sex with the suspect for several times, and some of their intimate moments were secretly recorded by Joel.
Sometime in September 2020, the suspect sent the sex videos to the victim as well as their friends. Since then, the suspect used it as a threat to the victim each time she refused to meet him for sex.
On Thursday, the victim met the suspect at the inn and let the cops arrest him to stop him from blackmailing her.
The suspect was brought to CIDG Ilocos Norte office for documentation and filing of charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act) and RA 9995 (Anti-Voyeurism Act of 2009) or the law that prohibits recording of videos or taking photos of a sexual act.
