The country’s fastest horse will be known this Sunday with the staging of the Philracom Sprint Race at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.
Smokin Saturday and four other equally explosive horses will be vying for the bragging rights in the 1,000-meter contest with the winning horse rewarding its owner the top prize of P900,000.
Expected to give Smokin Saturday strong opposition are Runway and Son Also Rises. The two other horses taking part in the event are Asiong and Weather Lang.
While Philracom Chairman Reli de Leon sees it as anybody’s race, some experts believe Smokin Saturday will still emerge victorious.
For one, Smokin Saturday boasts of several impressive stakes wins, including the prestigious Grand Sprint Championship two years ago at Metro Turf in Tanauan City, Batangas.
One of his opponents in that race was Son Also Rises.
The horse owner of the runner up gets P337,500 while the third and fourth placers shall get P187,000 and P75,000.
