Award-winning film director Brillante Mendoza continues his partnership with Viva, this time unleashing scares via “Bahay Na Pula.”
Shot entirely in Mindoro, the film stars Julia Barretto, Xian Lim, and Marco Gumabao.
In it, Julia and Xian are newlyweds Jane and Marco, respectively.
They travel to Mindoro to sell the ancestral house that Jane inherits from her grandmother.
When its caretaker gave them a tour, Jane suddenly feels strange reaching the basement of the house.
The eerie feeling continues that night while the couple was making love.
Jane is pretty certain someone is watching them!
The next day, when Jane and Marco were informed that the buyer of the property had backed out, they went to meet with the town mayor.
There, they learned that the Municipal Council had passed a resolution declaring the ancestral house as a National Historic Site.
Jane tries to convince the mayor to veto the resolution. To her surprise, her ex-boyfriend Anton (Marco), was there.
Apparently, he is now the Mayor’s secretary.
While they lobby together to reverse the council’s resolution, old flames get rekindled.
Jane, however, will soon feel sick. It seems that staying at the Bahay Na Pula has led to the conception of something evil.
With her tummy growing bigger by the day, she wonders if she is pregnant.
“I think this is a must-watch specially for horror fans. Direk Brillante created a truly scary film,” said Julia.
Brillante added, “Well, I should thank my cast. Lalo na si Julia. They were instrumental in bringing to life my vision for the film.”
