EJ Obiena put on a fitting sequel to a record-smashing win at the 31st Southeast Asian Games by ruling the L’Aquila leg of the European City of Sports tournament in Italy over the weekend.
Obiena cleared 5.85 meters in the event held in front of the medieval Basilica di Santa Maria di Collemaggio in central Italy.
Obiena’s winning effort bettered his SEAG record of 5.46m he posted in Hanoi, Vietnam a few weeks back.
It was, however, 0.08m close to his Asian mark of 5.93m he set in Innsbruck, Austria last year.
In a Facebook post, Obiena gushed at the historic venue and said, “It’s not everyday we get to jump in such beautiful places.”
Obiena immediately went back to training in Formia, Italy following his gold medal-performance in Hanoi.
