Following the successful staging of the Chooks-To-Go FIBA 3×3 World Tour Manila Masters and the country’s continuous participation in Super Quests competitions around the globe, the Philippines has jumped nine rungs from No. 27 to No. 18 in the latest FIBA 3×3 world rankings.
The country amassed 22,750 points and 52,805 points for participating in Dubai and Ulaanbaatar Super Quest events and 80,675 points for hosting and winning the Asia Pacific Super Quest last month — all of which are level eight tournaments.
A huge chunk of the points however came after the Chooks-To-Go successfully hosted the Manila Masters last weekend which generated 247,158 points.
Chooks-To-Go president Ronald Mascariñas stressed the importance of the country’s participation in these events to collect points and further rise up in the world rankings in hopes to make it to the Olympic Qualifying tournament and hopefully in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“We already know the formula for us to reach the OQT having done it during the last Olympic cycle,” said Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas.
“Hosting and participating bring in points but winning FIBA 3×3 tournaments will bring maximum points,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Cebu Chooks star Mac Tallo retained his spot as the country’s top 3×3 player after landing at No. 72 in the world with 149,120 points.This is the highest position a Filipino has notched in the World Tour era since former Pasig Chooks player Joshua Munzon placed 92 in 2019.
Cebu’s Zach Huang (no. 114, 98,941 pts), Manila’s Chico Lanete (no. 139, 86,612), Manila’s Dennis Santos (no. 163, 75,817), Cebu’s Brandon Ramirez (no. 191, 66,722), Manila’s Mark Yee (no. 303, 41,515), Manila’s Ken Holmqvist (no. 435, 27,000), and Manila’s Ron Dennison (no. 785, 17,160) complete the top eight.
