Former Philippine national team member and now NBA’s top shooting coach Chip Engelland will be joining Oklahoma City Thunder according to reports.
Engelland who was regarded as one of the best shooting coaches across the league will be joining the Thunder squad that is brimming with youth and talent with the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey and incoming rookie Chet Holmgren.
The NBA’s ‘Shot Doctor’ previously spent 17 years as part of Greg Popovich’s coaching staff at the San Antonio Spurs when he handled the likes of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and was heavily credited for the huge leap in the shooting performance of Kawhi Leonard.
During his early playing years as a pro, Engelland played as part of the Philippine national team as a naturalized player and even won a title in the 1985 William Jones Cup. He scored 43 points in the Finals to help the Filipinos beat the U.S team in a thrilling double-overtime match.
He also played in the PBA from 1984 to 1986 as part of the Northern Cement, bagging the PBA scoring title in 1984 before helping his team win the championship in the 1985 PBA Reinforced Conference.
As an assistant coach he won two NBA titles all with the Spurs in 2007 and 2014.
