World champion Carlos Edriel Yulo further boosted his already impressive resume by topping his pet event in the 55th All-Japan Seniors Championship Thursday.
Yulo combined power and grace to his performance to rule the floor exercise, underscoring his readiness for the World Championships scheduled Oct. 29 to Nov. 6 in Liverpool, England.
Japanese coach Munehiro Kugiyama said his ward did not see action in other events after injuring a finger.
From Japan, Yulo will go to Paris, France to undergo a rigid training camp as part of his buildup to the World Championships.
“He has injury in his finger,” said Kugiyama in his social media post.
Yulo will be one of the favorites to strike a gold in Liverpool after topping the vault while settling for No. 2 in his favorite event in last year’s edition in Kitakyushu, Japan.
Three years ago, he made a breakthrough after topping the floor exercise in a win that served as his ticket to the Tokyo Games last year.
