How far would you go to sustain a certain lifestyle? Would you actually sell your body and soul for it?
Former beauty queen Janelle Tee won’t.
She told us, “I’ve experienced hardships before naman but I didn’t resort to that. Nag-isip ako ng other means of pagkakakitaan. Nagbenta ako ng kung ano-ano pero not my body.”
She was quick to add, however, “I’ve nothing against those who did go that route. I mean, kanya kanya tayo ng diskarte at siguro, depende rin talaga sa sitwasyon.”
Ironically, in “An/Na,” an ongoing Vivamax series, Janelle plays the role of someone who actually delved into the flesh trade after experiencing severe financial woes.
“That’s where I’m coming from actually kasi I might not be open to it but ‘yung character ko sa series, si Anna Clemente, napunta siya doon. In portraying her, naramdaman ko yung hirap na iba’t ibang lalaki ang nakakasiping niya kahit hindi niya gusto.”
Writer-director Joey Reyes explained the impetus for the show as hinged on him trying to make people think.
“This doesn’t only entertain, it makes people think,” he said. “Kasi madalas ang bilis natin mag-judge ng iba pero hindi natin nakikita ‘yung dahilan kung bakit sila napunta sa sitwasyon na ganun.”
On picking Janelle for the title role, he said, “I like Janelle. I think she has what it takes to last in this industry. She is what I would call a ‘thinking actress.’ And she’s versatile. Masipag din.”
In the story, Janelle’s Anna works hard but she just can’t make ends meet. She’s been having a hard time for so long that she eventually resorts to making easy money transforming into the seductress Mei Ling.
But Anna has a boyfriend in Guido played by Greg Hawkins.
