Four teams in the girls’ division and three squads in the boys’ side are making their debuts at the resumption of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Under-18 Championships at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Malate, Manila.
Debuting in the girls’ section are Sto. Nino de Praga Academy of Trece Martires City against Team Hiraya (0-1 won-lost) of Angono in Pool D at 11:30 a.m. and De La Salle Lipa against Paranaque Green Berets (1-0) in Pool A.
Canosa Academy of Lipa City and UVL Munoz Hornets of the Science City of Munoz in Nueva Ecija clash at 2:30 p.m. in a battle of first-timers in the tournament organized by the PNVF headed by Ramon “Tats” Suzara and supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, PLDT, Rebisco and Akari.
La Salle-Greenhills debuts in boys’ Pool A against Santa Rosa City (1-1) at 8:30 a.m. and so will De La Salle-Lipa against Hermosa Volleyball Club (1-0) of Bataan at 4 p.m. in Pool C and Canosa Academy of Lipa City against Queen Anne School (1-1) also of Santa Rosa City at 5:30 p.m. in Pool D.
Five teams went unbeaten in two matches in the first weekend of the tournament—Justice CM Palma High School (Quezon City) and Team Nagcarlan (Laguna) in boys’ Pool A and D, respectively, and Maryhill College (Lucena City) in Pool A, California Precision Sports (Antipolo City) in Pool C and Volida Volleyball Club (Manila) in Pool D in the girls’ division.
Twenty teams are competing in the girls’ section and 16 squads are entered in the boys division. There are four pools in each of the genders.
Matches will be held on four consecutive Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, according to competition director Oliver Mora, with the medal plays for both genders set on March 12.
