Kate Valdez gets her biggest break as she grabs the much-coveted lead role in “Dreamwalker.”
The live-action TV series is an adaptation of the hit young adult action-fantasy graphic novel of the same title created by Mikey Sutton.
In an interview, Mikey revealed that he actually created “Dreamwalker” with Kate in mind.
He said, “I randomly discovered Kate Valdez in 2018 while recovering from a near-fatal stroke. I saw her on the GMA drama, ‘Onanay’, and her emotionally rich performance and timeless beauty made me declare her the Next Big Thing.
“I modelled and named ‘Dreamwalker’after her,” he added.
Kate, a huge fan of the novel, was ecstatic hearing about it.
More so, that she is now actually going to play lead in its TV adaptation.
“When Mikey told me that ‘Dreamwalker’ would become a TV series and that I was chosen to be the one who will also portray Kat on screen, I was pinching myself because I had no expectations that I would be able to extend my role into a medium that I’m so passionate about,” she said.
“I’m honestly so excited, nervous, and grateful to Mikey and everyone in the project for believing in me. To be able to do this major TV project particularly that it would expose global audiences to our culture and stories is a huge honor.”
Producing the project is London/ Singapore-based international content investment studio 108 Media.
Said Mikey, “I am thrilled and honored to work with 108 Media. They’ve been incredibly supportive and wonderful to me. They’ve chosen a top-notch crew to put this project together.”
Note the series will be directed by Mikhail Red.
Completing the creative dream team are Treb Monteras II as showrunner/director and Kaitlyn Fae Fajilan as headwriter.
“Dreamwalker” is about Kat, a vlogger who, after surviving a bus crash finds herself gifted with the ability to enter dreams and being able to extract weapons to wield against supernatural beings from Filipino folklore.
Season one will focus on her investigation of a seeming monster wave in the country. Executive producer Justin Deimen related, “The moment we heard about the concept, we knew how far this could travel. The project will be a focal point for Filipino talent across the globe and delivers cultural storytelling in a fresh and commercial way to young adult audiences locally and internationally.”
