La Salle made quick work of Far Eastern University, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21, and stayed perfect in the first round of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, March 11, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Spikers hiked to a 5-0 record in the standings as they remained the lone unbeaten team this season.
Rookie Angel Canino tallied her fifth straight double-digit performance for La Salle since making her debut with 13 points off 11 attacks, a block and an ace, while Thea Gagate also had a similar 13-point outing built on nine attacks, two blocks and two aces.
Jolina dela Cruz and Leila Cruz also both chipped in 10 points each in the commanding victory.
The second set was no different than the first, with La Salle leading by as much as eight points in both to breeze past FEU and take a commanding 2-0 set advantage.
Just as the Lady Spikers were about to pull away in the third set after surging to an 18-12 lead, the Lady Tamaraws would stage a determined 7-2 run to trim the deficit by only one.
However, Gagate’s service ace would bring La Salle to the match point followed by the Lady Tamaraws’ miscued play that ultimately ended the the aspiring rally.
