Here’s a piece of good news for fans of UST women’s volleyball team.
Veteran spiker Eya Laure has emerged as the league’s top scorer midway through the second round of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament.
With her steady showing and leadership, Laure tallied 168 points to seize the overall lead in the exciting race for the Most Valuable Player award.
In 10 matches, Laure posted 141 attacks, 17 blocks and 10 aces, including a 37.30 percent success rate in spiking to rank No. 2 behind National University’s Alyssa Solomon (38.51 percent).
Laure is also ranked No. 8 in blocking (0.46 percent), while making it to the top 10 in serving and digging with 0.27% and 2%, respectively.
Four points behind Angel Canino in the scoring category after the first round, the hard-hitting daughter of former PBA player Eddie Laure, is now 12 points clear of La Salle’s super rookie. A far third is Adamson’s Trisha Tubu (134).
The big turnaround happened after her stellar showing against erstwhile unbeaten La Salle where she erupted for 29 points on 29 kills.
Laure’s performance was overpowering the Tigresses handed the Lady Spikers their first setback in 10 games while boosting their own semis bid with a 7-3 mark.
The 24-year-old spiker was also glad to be backed by her teammates in their total effort against La Salle.
“Lahat kasi ng pagkatalo namin noong previous game, doon kami humuhugot ng motivation na ayaw na namin maramdaman iyong nagtatrabaho ka ng sobra pero parang hindi natutumbasan or nasusuklian ng tama,” she added.
UST is gunning for the second seed as it chases Adamson for the spot.
The Golden Tigresses will return to action against the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Saturday, April 15.
