Defending champion National University swept University of the East, 25-5, 25-15, 25-13, to clinch a Final Four seat in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, April 22, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Lady Bulldogs hardly broke sweat and climbed 9-3 in the standings to make a trip back to the semifinals.
The win enabled NU to join De La Salle and Adamson in the playoffs.
Earlier, the Lady Falcons clinched the second semis berth with a 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-15 win over University of the Philippines in the first game, a victory that sent the San Marcelino side to the semis for the first time in nearly a decade.
The Lady Falcons needed an extra set to bounce back from a stinging 5-set defeat to the La Salle Lady Spikers for a 9-4 win.
Reigning Most Valuable Player Bella Belen prodyced team-high 21 points on 13 attacks, six service aces and two blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs also dominated on every scoring opportunity after blasting the Lady Warriors with 34 attacks, 13 service aces and nine blocks while also limiting their own unforced errors to just 14.
That kept UE winless in 12 games.
