University of Perpetual Help pulled off a stunning upset against Letran, 81-68 to secure the top spot in the NCAA bracket of the FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Friday, June 9 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Altas delivered the coup de grace as Arthur Roque and Jielo Razon anchored a pivotal 14-4 assault to turn a tight two-point advantage early in the payoff period to a comfortable 78-66 lead in the final three minutes of the contest.
Both Razon and Roque finished with 10 points with the latter grabbing 9 rebounds as the Altas improved to 8-2 in the standings.
Letran, who rode on Kurt Reyson’s stellar showing of 24 points, ended up at the second spot with a 6-3 slate.
Meanwhile, National University also extended its winning streak to four after taking down FEU, 73-67.
The Bulldogs took advantage of Tamaraw’s dry spell in the third frame, unleashing a 13-0 run to seize a 56-50 advantage heading into the payoff period.
NU, however, still had to fend off a late FEU charge that saw the Morayta-based squad pull to within 67-65.
Steve Nash Enriquez, however, took matters into his own hands as he unloaded four of his 11 points in NU’s 8-2 finishing kick.
