Floyd Mayweather Jr. paid tribute to his Filipina personal assistant Kitchie Laurico by wearing a Philippine flag-inspired jacket and trunk in an exhibition fight against John Gotti III at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida on Sunday, June 11 (Monday Manila time)
Unknown to many, Laurico had been with Mayweather for the past 10 years until her untimely death on March 29 this year.
Wearing a PH flag-inspired jacket was perhaps Mayweather’s own tribute to a dear friend who would have also celebrated the Philippines’ 125th Independence Day if she was still alive.
Laurico, 47, aside from being a Mayweather’s personal assistant, was also the marketing manager of the ‘The Money Team’.
The Mayweather-Gotti clash, meantime, was stopped after a massive brawl that occurred in the sixth round of the bout.
The mayhem was triggered after referee Kenny Bayless disqualified Gotti for repeatedly grabbing the undefeated champion.
But that only further infuriated the grandson of the famous New York gangster as he continued to go after Mayweather while throwing punches.
All hell broke loose after that as supporters of both camps entered the ring and that led to a brawl.
