The giant-killing run of Lourence Ilagan and Christian Perez came to an end after the Filipino duo lost to Scottish rivals Gary Anderson and Peter Wright, 8-5, in the round-of-16 of the MyDiesel Claim 2023 World Cup Darts (WCD) in Frankfurt, Germany on Saturday, June 18.
Perez and looked headed to another big win when they took a 5-4 lead only to lose steam in the crunch that allowed that fancied Scottish players to escape with the win.
The round-of-16 showing of the PH team was still commendable considering that they failed to get past the first round after losing to Welsh Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton, 5-2, last year. In 2021, they suffered a stinging 5-1 defeat to Austrians Rowby-John Rodriguez and his partner Mersur Suljovic.
