Kai Sotto got another shot at fulfilling his dream of making it to the NBA after finally getting an invite from the Orlando Magic for the 2023 NBA Summer League set on July 7-17 in Las Vegas.
Reports about the 7-foot-3 center getting an invitation to the NBA off-season tournament came on Friday, June 23, and were later on confirmed by his agent Tony Ronzone of Wasserman Sports.
Sotto has been in the US and actually participated in the three NBA training camps in the past weeks namely the Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks.
Curiously, it was the Magic who got the nod from the camp of the Gilas Pilipinas center after several NBA teams also reportedly showed interest in Sotto.
The Magic, though, aren’t entirely new to Sotto who he had also worked out with ahead of the 2022 NBA draft last year.
Sotto, however, went undrafted during the ceremony prompting him to return to NBL Australia and then later on the Japan B.League before deciding to relaunch his bid for the NBA.
With the stint, Sotto will have the chance to showcase his talent in front of NBA scouts, coaches and executives in hopes of becoming the first full-blooded Filipino to make it to the big league.
He could also be joining this year’s Orlando draft picks in Arkansas’ Anthony Black at No. 6 and Jett Howard at No. 11 overall.
In the NBA, the Magic have a bevy of big men in Wendell Carter Jr., Moritz Wagner and 7-foot-2 Bol Bol
